Our Mission
At GRiT (Grandmasters in Training), we are dedicated to helping young people build critical thinking, discipline, and confidence through structured chess education. Our training model integrates strategic play with social-emotional learning, empowering students to develop the patience and resilience they need to thrive in today's world.
Meet Coach Wilson
GRiT Initiative was founded by Wilson Onuoha, a FIDE Licensed Chess Instructor with over a decade of experience in competitive play and youth development.
Known as Coach Wilson, his chess journey began in 2008 in Lagos, Nigeria, where he was introduced to the game by his high school physics teacher and mentor—an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for strategy, discipline, and the art of learning.

The GRiT Method
Through a structured blend of lessons, interactive workshops, and seasonal tournaments, we empower students to master the board and their own emotions. Our approach helps young minds build strategic thinking, cultivate patience, and develop resilience.
